Building Foundations for Early Learning

This workshop uses the latest neuroscience research to explain the fundamentals of brain development and how everyday interactions with young children can support enriched learning experiences. Packed with practical tips to build confidence in choosing and using books and songs.
Introduction:
Participants learn about the latest research on early childhood brain development, how language and literacy skills develop, and are given a wide range of practical tips to build confidence in choosing and using books and songs. They also receive tools to evaluate the effectiveness of their current children’s sessions/programs and consider new ideas to positively and effectively engage with families in the community.
Topics covered include:
- How the brain develops through use
- Building blocks for speech and language
- The importance of being engaged and doing
- Books as a springboard to play
- Tips for picture walks and storytelling
Target Audience:
Educators in preschool settings for Victorian School Readiness Funding
Learning Outcomes:
- Learn about brain development, language and literacy development in the early years
- Identify strategies and practical ideas to develop and support a literacy rich environment
- Identify strategies and ideas for connecting with children (and their families)
Learning Methods:
