SRF Inclusive Literacy Practice
This workshop aims to upskill educators in effectively engaging with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse families and young children. It offers practical strategies to support children’s development in both their community language and Standard Australian English. It explores high-quality, inclusive literacy practices that can be embedded in everyday routines to benefit all children and families.
Introduction:
Participants learn how to connect with and support young children and families with limited English in an out of home setting to help build their confidence, literacy skills and a strong sense of belonging.
Content will cover key principles to enable children to learning English

The child needs to understand what is going on

Honour and nurture the home language/culture

Learning is supported through safe, welcoming and inclusive practices

Support children to undertake self-directed play

Scaffold/support English language use
Target Audience:
Educators in preschool and early years settings.
This workshop is on the menu for Victorian School Readiness Funding.
Learning Outcomes:
- Learn more about language and literacy development in the early years
- Understand and plan for the needs of children, particularly those who speak other languages
- Identify ideas and strategies for connecting with children/families and to provide literacy rich every day practices to support them
Learning Methods:
Online via Zoom. This is a live interactive workshop.
