BHL

This workshop covers the resources in the Building Home Libraries program as well as the delivery schedule and ideas how to use the resources in your kindergarten program.

Introduction:

The Building Home Libraries Program is an early years multilayered literacy program. It aims to build children’s learning capacity, oral language and literacy development. The program is implemented over 12 months (or a regular time frame scheduled by the service) for kindergartens to connect with the children’s home environment.

The components of the program include;

  • An initial home library with 6 picture books, stem activity books, nursery rhyme cd and play adjuncts in a library tub.
  • Every month, families (through kindergarten setting) receive an additional picture book/s, play adjunct and extension play idea.
  • Support for Families with role modelling and photographic tip sheets to grow their understanding and knowledge of child development and the crucial role they play in their child’s early years learning journey.
  • Curriculum support for educators including professional learning session on language and literacy, role modelling techniques, and provision of literacy kits, resources, and programming extension ideas.
