Every child deserves to have the resources they need to thrive in the early years.

Words Grow Minds – Early Years Programs are designed to encourage and support all families to talk, play, read and sing with their children every day.

Raising Literacy Australia produce book packs that include high-quality picture books from Little Book Press, activity books, play resources and information on early childhood development to support caregivers to engage in positive interactions, crucial for early brain development.

These packs are free for children and families and given out annually through a range of early years services across South Australia.

Baby program

Baby packs are given out to families during their baby’s 6–8-week Child and Family Health and development check, and through various outreach programs. The accessible information and engaging resources in these packs encourage new parents to interact with their little one from birth and support their ongoing development.

Preschool program

Every South Australian child enrolled in a government approved preschool or kindergarten program receives a pack of picture books and activities that foster their literacy development, curiosity and imagination while promoting reading and engagement in the home. These packs are distributed via preschools programs and outreach programs.

Community program

Our community book packs are developed for all children from birth to 3 years of age. These resources are tailored to provide parents and caregivers with practical tools to assist them to talk, play, read, and sing with their children every day.

Community packs are distributed through Child and Family Health Service, public libraries, government children’s centres, playgroups and local outreach services.

Families have consistently reported that our programs foster children’s love of books and reading and encourage caregivers to interact with their children more frequently. These simple but crucial activities provide the foundation for all lifelong learning.
